Dr. Rainer Seele brings with him over 25 years of experience in the oil and gas sector, most recently (2015 – 2021) serving as the Chairman of the Executive Board and CEO of OMV AG, an integrated international oil and gas company active in the upstream and downstream businesses, headquartered in Vienna and one of the largest listed industrial companies in Austria. At OMV, Dr. Seele was responsible for the overall management and coordination of the group including the following areas: Strategy, HR, Legal, Public Affairs, Corporate Development and M&A, Communications & Sustainability. Prior to that, Dr. Seele held several roles at Wintershall AG (1996 – 2015), the main oil and gas Exploration & Production Company in Germany and a wholly-owned subsidiary of chemical corporation BASF. From 2009 – 2015, he was Chairman of the Board of Directors of Wintershall AG. Dr. Seele started his career in 1987 at BASF AG as a research scientist, and spent almost a decade there. Dr. Seele is currently President of the German-Russian Chamber of Commerce and Vice President of the International Business Congress. He received an MSc in Chemistry and a PhD from the University of Göttingen in Germany.
