COP28
As a UAE-headquartered company, Fertiglobe is proud to be actively participating in COP28 in Dubai.
We are a pioneer in the field of renewable and low carbon ammonia. Through a range of strategic projects and initiatives, we aim to reduce our own carbon footprint as well as develop sustainable solutions that support the decarbonization of others in our value chain.
Fertiglobe embraces every opportunity to decarbonize its operations and leverage technology and partnerships as part of its journey to Net Zero by 2050.
Opportunities such as CycloneCC technology – developed by Carbon Clean – are designed to improve the economics of point-source carbon capture within industrial facilities. Carbon Clean’s innovative and proprietary carbon capture is currently being piloted at Fertiglobe’s nitrogen fertiliser plant in Ruwais, UAE.
This is an additional step towards achieving the UAE’s decarbonization and climate-focused ambitions.
Ahmed El-Hoshy, CEO of Fertiglobe, says, “We take the climate challenge very seriously and believe that carbon capture technology will play a significant role in the transition to a more sustainable future.”
Fertiglobe continues to capitalize on innovative projects that are focused on the betterment of processes, products, and the planet.
For example, our Egypt Green Hydrogen project in Egypt is the African continent’s first integrated green hydrogen plant. This project aims to produce green hydrogen and ammonia through renewable energy sources.
Additionally, Fertiglobe, in partnership with Ta’ziz, GS Energy and Mitsui, introduced the Ta’ziz Low Carbon Ammonia Project in the UAE. The first world-scale low carbon ammonia facility in the MENA region, with a capacity of up to 1 million metric tonnes per year, leverages Fertiglobe’s world-leading ammonia capabilities and demonstrates the company’s commitment to reducing emissions and promoting sustainable ammonia production.
These topics, and more, will be addressed during COP28. Fertiglobe’s leading decision-makers will be discussing some of our most important initiatives, including our journey to strengthening Fertiglobe’s hydrogen value proposition. We will be exploring subjects that are impacting our industries and planet, and the innovative solutions to support a sustainable future.
Key Topics for Discussion
- The role of low-carbon ammonia in industrial processes and applications
- The impact of legislative developments such as FuelEU Maritime and new regulatory mandates such as the 2023 IMO GHG Strategy on the shipping industry
- Ammonia’s immense potential as a sustainable fuel on a global scale
- Fertiglobe’s scaling up of its own low-carbon supply of ammonia
- The impact of regulations on Fertiglobe’s projects
We are honoured to be contributing to COP28. It is a unique opportunity to cement our commitment to the planet and our people by supporting global sustainability initiatives and inspiring others to do the same.
