Products

Fertiglobe is committed to developing products and initiatives to provide low-carbon and more sustainable solutions to our customers. We also aim to grow the share of sustainable products in our portfolio.

Fertiglobe’s products serve as a reliable nitrogen source, a vital nutrient for crop development, catering to customers worldwide and playing a crucial role in safeguarding global food security. Our portfolio of products comprises merchant ammonia, which is used as a building block for industrial chemicals and nitrogen fertilizers and sold as a direct fertilizer to industrial and agricultural customers; granular urea for agricultural and industrial customers; and Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF), also known as AdBlue in Europe, is a non-hazardous urea solution that helps cut down NOx, carbon monoxide, hydrocarbon, and particulate emissions significantly. We are actively pursuing additional potential future uses of ammonia that are emerging as part of the nascent clean hydrogen economy, where renewable ammonia could serve as an efficient energy carrier or as a clean fuel.

Our Nitrogen Fertilizers

Granular Urea

Granular urea, a solid fertilizer, exhibits a white crystalline structure and boasts an approximate nitrogen content of 46%. Formed under high pressure and temperature through the reaction of ammonia and carbon dioxide, urea stands out for having the highest nitrogen content among solid nitrogen fertilizers. Although primarily utilized as a fertilizer, urea extends its utility to industrial applications, serving as a crucial raw material in the production of resins, melamine, DEF, and animal feedstock.

Urea’s widespread popularity is attributed to its high nitrogen concentration and its ease of handling and transportation, making it the most traded nitrogen fertilizer globally in terms of volume.

Merchant Ammonia

Merchant Ammonia, recognized for its highest energy density among non-hydrocarbon products, is a transparent gas generated under elevated temperature and pressure by combining nitrogen (82%) and hydrogen. Serving as a fundamental building block for industrial chemicals and nitrogen fertilizers, it can also be directly applied as a fertilizer. The conventional production process relies on natural gas as the principal raw material, sourced by Fertiglobe through enduring supply agreements with partners spanning our operational countries.

Ammonia and urea jointly constitute 57% of a crop’s annual nutrient requirements. Presently, only approximately 10% of produced ammonia is traded as merchant ammonia, while the majority undergoes transformation into other nitrogen products such as urea, nitrates, DAP, and MAP. Fertiglobe is currently focused on catering to the global merchant ammonia market.

Sustainable Products

Renewable Ammonia

Fertiglobe is one of a few producers globally using hydrogen from electrolysis powered by renewable electricity at our Egypt facilities.

Low-carbon ammonia

Fertiglobe produced and shipped several test cargoes of low-carbon ammonia including the first shipment of low carbon ammonia enabled by carbon capture and storage (CCS) produced at our UAE facilities.

Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF)

DEF is a non-hazardous urea solution utilized to reduce harmful vehicle exhaust emissions from diesel engines. It consists of approximately 67.5% deionized water and 32.5% urea. DEF has the added advantage of improving vehicle fuel economy by approximately 5% and using diesel fuel more efficiently.

DEF breaks down nitrogen oxides emissions into nitrogen gas and water vapor, thereby eliminating environmentally harmful emissions from cars, trucks, buses, and other heavy-duty vehicles.
