Sustainability
Fertiglobe’s ambition is to play a pivotal role in the transition to sustainable agriculture and the development of low-carbon fuel and industrial feedstock solutions.
Our Sustainability Strategy
Within our business model, we have woven sustainability into our industrial strategy, strategic objectives, and executive compensation.
Taking a significant stride in our sustainability journey, Fertiglobe became a part of the United Nations Global Compact Network in March 2023, pledging to implement the 10 universal principles in human rights, labour, environment, and anti-corruption.
The Board has entrusted Fertiglobe’s leadership with managing sustainability, led by the Fertiglobe Sustainability Director and supported by the Sustainability Steering Committee. This committee oversees the development and implementation of our sustainability targets and strategy.
Committed to Sustainability
At Fertiglobe, we aim to be at the forefront of addressing global challenges, including food security and climate change. As leading producer of ammonia and urea, we aim to responsibly drive sustainable agriculture, fuel, and industrial feedstock by:
- leading decarbonization solutions through our low-carbon and renewable platforms to reduce downstream emissions;
- creating innovative solutions to feed a growing population, empower our business and growers to confront environmental challenges and reduce the environmental impacts of fertilizer application;
- developing and promoting products to minimize impacts and dependencies on the environment, beyond GHG emission reduction.
Fertiglobe integrates its sustainability principles across all operations, committing to creating value and getting the best out of our positive financial, social and environmental impacts.
To pursue our sustainability objectives, we have implemented a structured and dedicated ESG Governance.
Driving the Global Energy Transition
With ammonia’s end markets covering food, fuel, and feedstock, Fertiglobe plays a key role in decarbonizing its diversified value chain, enabling the global energy transition.
Hydrogen also plays a crucial role in the pursuit of carbon neutrality, aligning with government targets for the 1.5–2°C pathway, necessitating a substantial decrease in global CO₂ emissions. The adoption of low-carbon ammonia and hydrogen opens diverse opportunities for decarbonization, encompassing emissions reduction in marine fuel, power generation, transportation, construction, and agriculture, which will help reducing emissions across industries where abatement is difficult.
Drawing on our access to renewable energy sources and leveraging the synergies provided by our majority shareholders, Fertiglobe aims to play an increasingly central role in propelling the growth of the low-carbon and renewable ammonia industry, directly contributing to the decarbonization of the global economy.
Our low-carbon ammonia strategy aligns with the UAE’s Green Agenda 2030 and Net-Zero strategic initiative.
ESG Framework
Fertiglobe is moving along its sustainability journey implementing concrete actions that reinforce its purpose-driven mission. To this extent, the Company has established an ESG Framework consisting of four sustainability priorities, and related targets and goals that drive Fertiglobe towards its ambitions.
Our ESG framework is aligned with our corporate strategy and business planning, as well as with the UAE’s National Vision and the UN SDGs.
